Dele Alli Biography

Bamidele Jermaine "Dele" Alli (born 11 April 1996) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team.

Born and raised in Milton Keynes, he joined the youth system at Milton Keynes Dons aged 11 and broke into the first team five years later, during the 2012–13 season. Over the next two-and-a-half years he made 74 league appearances for Milton Keynes Dons, scoring 22 goals. He signed for Tottenham Hotspur in February 2015 for an initial fee of £5 million.

Alli played for the England U17, U18 and U19 teams. He made his senior debut in 2015.

Early career

Alli was born and raised in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, to Nigerian father Kenny and English mother Denise. He joined the youth system at Milton Keynes Dons when he was 11 years old. He made his debut for the first team as a sixteen-year-old on 2 November 2012, coming on as a 64th-minute substitute for Jay O'Shea in a 0–0 draw with Southern Football League club Cambridge City in the FA Cup first round at Bridge Road. His first touch in professional football was a back-heeled pass. His first goal came in the replay against Cambridge eleven days later, where he scored in a 6–1 win at Stadium mk on his first start. He made his league debut in the 2–3 defeat to Coventry City at home on 29 December, where he played 71 minutes before being replaced by Zeli Ismail. His only other league appearance in the 2012–13 Football League One season, came as a second-half substitute for Patrick Bamford in the last game of the season, a 2–0 win over Stevenage at Broadhall

What type of player is he?

Alli caused nightmares for defenders in League One throughout the 2014/15 season, establishing himself as one of the most feared midfielders in the division.

He netted 16 times in 39 appearances, making scouts stand up and take notice with his ability to drive past opponents through the centre of the park.Since arriving at Spurs, Alli has most often been used in a deep-lying role by Mauricio Pochettino, alongside Eric Dier in the Argentine's preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. Pochettino has shown he is not afraid to give youth a chance during his stint in the White Hart Lane dugout.

The teenager was particularly impressive in dealing with Yaya Toure during Spurs' 4-1 victory over Manchester City last .

What is his international pedigree?

Alli is yet to find the net at international level, having represented England at U17s, U18s, U19s and U21s.
He only got his first call-up to the U21s last month, featuring in the Young Lions' 1-0 victory over Norway.

4. What does Mauricio Pochettino think?

Despite his early-season form, Pochettino was of the opinion, contrary to Roy Hodgson, it seems, that Alli should not have been called up to the senior squad so soon.

He said last week: "It's the same situation as last season with Harry Kane.

"Be careful with the younger players, the players who arrive in the Premier League and perform well. It's not easy.
"But again, like last season, it's not my decision. It's Roy Hodgson's decision if he wants to call up Dele Alli.
"You can see he's a player that is very mature and shows great quality but always in football it's step by step and we need to be careful.

"He will mature. He has personality and good character. But it is too much of a rush to talk about bigger steps for him."
